Chinese Rain

How can you not

savor the sizzling spring rain:

  our slippery windshield animating

  soft yellow neon egg noodles,

crisp green neon herbs in flight

over a glowing pink bowl that surrounds in dance

neon red letters breathing a hot Szechuan OPEN

  to sinuous white neon steam rising;

the icy blue words CHINESE FOOD melting

        into endless amorphous mosaics?

Not Here, Nor There

‘It
would be a nice day if . . .’

But
two fronts slam,

cold,
hot.

Wind
whipped 40 degrees, 20

blown
away.

‘All
packed . . .’

Can
we turn around?

I
forgot . . .

We’ll
get another

on
the way.

‘We’re
almost there . . .’

We
snacked, left late

so
are not.

Traffic
stuck in

a
delay.

‘Almost
done . . .’

Just
a minute,

supper’ll
be ready.

Now
it’s hard, rough,

raw
if rushed.

‘Guess
we’ll be going now . . .”

Seems
we guessed wrong.

We
hover, sip coffee, tea

anytime
now . . .

bored
and hushed.

‘Yes, I’m listening . . .’

Well,
not really,

but
I will be.

Need
time to write these words and

not
be pushed.

My 2012 Poetry Blog

Artistic Splatter Poetry Blog 2012

January

Lurking in the shadow of the old year

unwriting turn-of-the-new-year verses

before they fail on paper

ideas rolled over inside and out of mind

reading and rereading

historical musings reflective repenting

hereby resolved to

not

resolve.

Posted previously on my Artistic Splatter blog in January 2013.

Forecast

A
clear day

with
simple sun

             no poetry predicted

but
I’m driving along

and
two poems

are
spitting a mist

into
my mind

of
words now missed

because
I’m on this

no-pull-over
road

we
need poetry

                                  turn offs

signaled
by

                  dangling

roadway

           signs

a
clipart pen

or
a cryptic scrap of scribbled paper

              its calligraphy deppilf in homage
to Leonardo

or
ellipses . . .

&
ampersands

but
not

the
? mark –

it
eloped with the

information
booth

too
bad

because
poets have

so
