April 3

tended for nesting birds
butterflies and their flowers
a fallow farm nurtured for nature

April 2

slashed by shadows

morning light stripes the distant hills

unsettling the day

April 1, 2023

maple buds clamped tight.

Green-headed mallards frothing

the rain-rivened pond

Seeing Spring?

eager for spring thaw:

groundhog nibbles shoots of grass?

winter trees bending

down under heavy snow

branches becoming roots

So Close!

rain erasing snow

a hunched hawk watches the pond

tastes spring in the air

A Pond Tries Melting Into Spring . . .

reopens the open water frozen by a brief northern blast

captures pink from the gift of southerly rain clouds

melts into reflections of leafless trees, wisps of birds,

and evergreens who whispered life winter-long.

February

hovering
over ice and mud
wishing
amid wind and robins' wings
waiting
between downtrodden and hopeful

July

heat lightning flies, with fireflies vies - flashing bright in the thick, dark air.
