winter trees bending
down under heavy snow
branches becoming roots

do spring birds nest
beneath the snow waiting
to burst into flight when
the branches snap upwards . . .

A Pond Tries Melting Into Spring . . .
reopens the open water frozen by a brief northern blast
captures pink from the gift of southerly rain clouds
melts into reflections of leafless trees, wisps of birds,
and evergreens who whispered life winter-long.
